I can’t tell you how long I have been wanting to write this post. I went back through my Instagram and found the photo on the right. I posted that on January 14, 2014 with the caption “I’ve got big plans for you greenhouse. Don’t disappoint me.” Finally here we are, 3 years later.
The little greenhouse in my parents backyard served as a storage spot for about 15 years. Maybe a greenhouse its first year. I remember when my dad and uncle built it. There were shelves with little pots on them ready for the seedlings to grow. Grow lights up above them, a potting table, all ready to be a thriving green space. But then life happens and those grand dreams get pushed to the back.
So, then 3 years ago when I started to do weddings and taking up my moms kitchen table, living room and garage with flowers and work benches, that greenhouse was just sitting there. It was the perfect place for all of my supplies to go and flowers to be stored, if you could only walk in there.
I began the task of clearing it out, cleaning up all the spider webs, washing the walls, just clearing out the junk and getting it so we could at least walk in there.
The next year we made sure the structure was safe, 15 years of water damage and all. A new floor and patching up the roof accomplished that one. Now, this greenhouse is very, very small. Enough space to hold supplies and store flowers but not much room to arrange in. So we built a deck off of it! We created the space to process flowers, have a working table and space to move around. It is perfect!
I painted the walls, brought some shelving back in, hung some lights and we have a functional working space now! I couldn’t be happier with it!
I love seeing where this greenhouse has been and where it is now. Finally being put to some good use! Here’s to many more weddings coming from this perfect little space!
